Tenuta Bossi, owned by the Gondi family since 1592, has always been famous for its wine. Located in the wooded hills north-east of Florence, in the heart of Chianti Rufina, a wine-growing area famous since Etruscan times. This gem is located in a vineyard valley, among the hills 18 km from Florence, between 200 and 400 metres above sea level. The estate covers 315 hectares of which 19 hectares are vineyards and 32 hectares olive groves, as well as cereals and woods. The majestic Renaissance villa, which dominates the valley with its monumental park and cellars, was restored and modified in the centuries following its purchase. Next to the villa, a church with three altars was built by Antonino Gondi.
The family has believed in the territory in which this reality is immersed, the Chianti Rufina, which makes the wine produced here unique and recognisable.
The current owners, the 25th generation of winemakers at Tenuta Bossi, are Marquis Bernardo Gondi and his sister Donatella, assisted by Bernardo's sons, Gerardo and Lapo. They continue the family tradition by trying to maintain what their ancestors have always done, preserving the integrity and beauty of the environment in which the estate is located and continuing the philosophy that has always distinguished Tenuta Bossi: the continuous search for the highest quality products. Like skilled artisans, romantic vignerons, they mould the grapes into wine, giving it a soul that makes their wines unique.
The first historical evidence of the wines of today's Chianti Rufina dates back to the early 15th century. In the 18th century, the Medici identified in this area a particular aptitude for the production of great wines. This wine-growing area was included in the 1716 Bando dei Vini of Cosimo III de' Medici.
The land is at an average of 350 metres above sea level, close to the mountains but also to the Arno and Sieve rivers, leading to great ventilation and humidity and therefore many temperature changes. These characteristics give the wines greater primary aromas. The soils of the estate are a mixture of clay, galestro and calcareous sediments. The vines therefore have to work hard to obtain their nutrients, so the wines are very structured and fresh. Two characteristics that allow them great longevity combined with great aromas.
The 19 hectares of vineyards produce Sangiovese, Colorino from an autochthonous clone reproduced here for over 100 years, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano Toscano, Chardonnay and white Sauvignon. These grapes, cultivated with respect for the environment and harvested by hand with particular care, are vinified in the monumental vaulted cellars in the basement of the Villa.
In the 32 hectares of olive groves there are various traditional cultivars of the area with about 70% Frantoio olives, the remaining 30% being Moraiolo, Pendolino and Leccino.
Marchesi Gondi - Tenuta Bossi has been known for its wines and olive oil since the Renaissance. Bonaccorso Gondi and then his children Bernardo and Donatella Gondi have led the company to establish itself in the field of wine, experimenting with modern winemaking techniques but keeping their hearts tied to the culture and philosophy that has distinguished the company for 25 generations.
In fact, they continue to pursue a wine that is rooted in the magnificent Chianti Rufina territory that overlooks the winery, while experimenting with both international and native grape varieties.
The company's wine cellars are located partly in the basement of the Villa and partly under the park in the shade of centuries-old trees. The philosophy of the company is to maintain the environment and its traditions of high quality. The Gondi family from the beginning has distinguished itself as romantic vigneron, tied to the traditions and to the territory, qualities that have been handed down for more than 25 generations.
The Gondi family have a phrase engraved in their minds that Galileo Galilei said and on which they still base their corporate philosophy: ''.Wine is a compound of Humour and Light.”. Humour is the great passion of the people who toil in the vineyard all year round. Light is the Tuscan sun that irradiates and nourishes the grapes. Humour and Light give us the best grapes to produce great wines.
Tenuta Bossi has not succumbed to the temptation of the new in the cellar but, by combining perfect care of the vines to produce healthy, ripe grapes, careful vinification under constant human supervision and appropriate use of wood, we achieve unique and special products without losing the taste of tradition. The red wines, after suitable maturation in the numerous oak casks and barriques, are refined in the bottle.
Tenuta Bossi produces about 800/900 hl of wine, including Chianti Rufina DOCG, Super Tuscan IGT, Bianco dei Colli dell'Etruria Centrale DOC, Rosato dei Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina DOC and Grappa. Two types of extra virgin olive oil of great value are also produced, including Laudemio.
Bernardo Gondi has always been fascinated by distillates, in fact at Tenuta Bossi in the 19th century one of the best Italian cognacs was produced. Since the Italian legislation regarding distillation is complicated, we relied on Bonollo to produce a distillate with our marc.discoverdiscover

Around the mid 1980's Bernardo Gondi began experimenting with Cabernet, and decided to buy some barriques, and try to make some blends. After a few attempts, in 1989 he decided that the best choice for Tenuta Bossi's first Super Tuscan was a pure Cabernet Sauvignon. Given the strength and structure of the wine, he decided to use the name to evoke the family's warrior origins.discoverdiscover
